PENN STATE FIRES PATERNO

Wednesday night the Penn State Board of Trustees fired university president Graham Spanier and head football coach Joe Paterno. Both were relieved of their positions after growing anger has ensued over the way the school has handled child molestation/sex allegations towards a former assistant coach.

The shakeup came just hours after Paterno announced that he planned to retire at the end of the season.

Despite seemingly blind support for the now ousted coach, the overwhelming evidence and outcry surrounding the Jerry Sandusky child molestation charges forced to board to take action and dismiss the longtime head coach.

That evidence revolves around a 20+ grand jury testimony that focuses on a 2002 incident where former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was caught by a grad assistant having sex with a young boy in a Penn State athletic building. After being tipped off by the grad assistant many are wondering as to why Paterno and the other athletic administration didn’t report the incident to the police.

Paterno himself said he wish he could have done more regarding the situation while Spanier said he was never told the details of the attack.

Jerry Sandusky has denied all charges against him and will have a December 7th hearing.
