More damning evidence for former Penn State officials Tim Curley and Gary Schultz was revealed in a series of emails CNN obtained emails from 2001.
The emails between the Penn State official further show that they were very aware of Sandusky’s sexual encounter with a child in a University shower back in 2001.
From the News & Observer:
The report goes on to say that former Athletic Director Tim Curley said he discussed the situation with Joe Paterno and “am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps. I am having trouble with going to everyone but the person involved. I would be more comfortable meeting with the person and tell them about the information we received and tell them we are aware of the first situation.”
Curley allegedly commented on getting “professional help” for Sandusky.
The report goes on to cite an email Spanier allegedly sent, saying in part, “I am supportive. … The only downside for us is if the message isn’t heard and acted upon and we then become vulnerable for not having reported it. But that can be assessed down the road.”
Curley also writes of a conversation he had with then head coach Joe Paterno on the matter…
“After giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe yesterday, I am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps.”
It’s not exactly known everything that was discussed with Paterno but you cannot help but wonder why Paterno didn’t further take action after seeing Sandusky continue to be allowed to use the Penn State facilities. It also makes you wonder if the NCAA will eventually take action as more disturbing news on the case continues to come out.
