Devastating news for the Ottawa Senators as Erik Karlsson was lost indefinitely after Matt Cooke’s skate lacerated his Achilles tendon in what is probably one of the more painful injuries in all of sports.
The injury came in the second period between the Senators and Penguins as both Karlsson and Cooke were heading over to the corner to play the puck. As both players got tangled up Cooke’s skate came down on the back of Karlsson’s leg lacerating the tendon. From there the defending Norris Trophy winner had to be helped off the ice as he obviously couldn’t put weight on the injured leg.
I’d expect a long recovery time for Karlsson that could stretch into next season.
