There is one x-factor however and that’s the status of veteran goaltender Chris Osgood.
After undergoing surgery for a sports hernia on January 11th, Chris Osgood has begun taking part in movement drills and took some shots for the first time in practice on Friday.
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press however mentions that the Wings will need to know by the end of the week whether or not Osgood thinks he can go.
Why?
Because given what the Wings went through in January and the beginning of February, they cannot go into the playoffs with a duo of Jimmy Howard and Joey MacDonald.
“Priority 1 is to find out the status of Chris a week from now,” Holland said. “Hopefully, he’s ready to start stepping it up.”
The Wings have roughly around $570,000 dollars to work with cap wise so adding anything else besides a backup goaltender if Osgood isn’t able to go seems like a long shot. Especially considering that if they were to add extra pieces they would more then likely have to part with someone in order to make it work cap wise. Holland has indicated he isn’t prepared to do that.
