Nothing revealed in Zumaya’s exploratory elbow surgery

Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya got some good and bad news after having exploratory surgery on his right elbow by Dr. James Andrews.

The good news is Dr. Andrews couldn’t find anything that was causing Joel Zumaya pain when he was throwing this past spring.

The bad news?

Dr. Andrews couldn’t find anything that was causing Joel Zumaya pain when he was throwing this past spring.

“Nothing to indicate any problem,” said Kevin Rand, the Tigers’ head athletic trainer. “Basically, they cleaned out the joint. He’ll be re-evaluated in six weeks.”

Zumaya was hoping to get some answers regarding his elbow after having to shut himself down this spring after chronic elbow soreness stemming from a significant injury he suffered last season.

Rand would not rule out Zumaya pitching again this season however the probability of that still seems pretty bleak at this point.

Zumaya who has hand injury problems plague his career since coming to the Majors in 2006 is a free agent after this season.
