For good reason, Phoenix Suns majority owner Robert Sarver is finding himself continually isolated as one of the shittiest people in the NBA.
And it seems to be getting worse for him.
Just a few days after the NBA suspended Sarver from all league activities for one year and fined him $10 million, Suns minority owner and vice chairman Jahm Najafi, has called on Sarver to resign via The Arizona Republic’s Duane Rankin:
I cannot in good judgment sit back and allow our children and future generations of fans think that this behavior is tolerated because of wealth and privilege. Therefore, in accordance with my commitment to helping eradicate any form of racism, sexism and bias, as Vice Chairman of the Phoenix Suns, I am calling for the resignation of Robert Sarver. While I have no interest in becoming the managing partner, I will work tirelessly to ensure the next team steward treats all stakeholders with dignity, professionalism and respect.
According to an NBA investigation into Sarver, the league discovered the Suns’ owner used the n-word on at least five separate occasions when relaying messages to black people. It was also discovered that Sarver demeaned and bullied female employees as well as made inappropriate physical contact with male employees.
NBA stars LeBron James and Chris Paul have called for Sarver’s ejection from the league, something not done since Donald Sterling was forced to sell the Clippers back in 2014 over similar gross conduct.
In the meantime, the league has appointed Sam Garvin as the team’s interim governor.
