It seems that the Pac-12 will remain the Pac-12
Pac-12 presidents and chancellors voted Tuesday not to expand further to the rumored 16 teams. Commissioner Larry Scott says “after careful review we have determined that it is in the best interests of our member institutions, student-athletes and fans to remain a 12-team conference.”
This decision breathes new life into the endangered Big 12.
Texas and Oklahoma recently got the approval by their regents for the presidents to seek a new conference allegiance for their athletic programs. It was also rumored that Oklahoma and Texas Tech could join these former Big 12 members in the new Pac-12 which saw Colorado and Utah join the ranks this season.
Out east, Big East officials announced that the remaining members of the conference are committed to moving forward as a conference after Pitt and Syracuse announced this week that they will move forward in joining the ACC.
Even though it looks as if the super conference concept has been put on hold for the time being, it’s something that could come up again in the very near future.
