Nick Fairley’s progress

It’s almost been six weeks since the Lions’ first round draft pick Nick Fairley was sidelined with a foot injury and it was that six-week mark in which Fairley was slated to get back on to the practice field.

Well with that said there’s good news and bad news.

The bad news is Fairley isn’t going to be back this week or probably for the next couple weeks. However the good news is he’s begun working out and getting ready for when that time comes for him to finally be available to the Lions.

“I’m champing at the bit,” Fairley confirmed to Justin Rogers of MLive.com. “I’m basically working every day to get to 110 percent.”

And like always, head coach Jim Schwartz remains secretive on Fairley’s progress as well. But he did mention that Fairley’s beginning to make progress on the mental aspects of the NFL game.

“I feel real good about it right now,” Fairley said of the playbook. “I sit down with coach Kris [Kocurek], and I sit down with Corey [Williams], and I just go over plays and what I’ve got to do. I’m not out there taking field reps, so I need to take my mental reps when I’m out there watching them at practice.”
