The NHL is investigating an alleged incident last night where Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw used a homophobic slur towards and official.
According to reports, the incident apparently happened in the final minutes of Chicago‘s game four loss to the St. Louis Blues. Shaw was sent to the box for interference before flipping off the officials which will already gain the attention from the NHL. However while Shaw was sitting in the box is when it appeared he hurled the slur towards the official.
Here’s video of the incident that may (or may not) show what happened.

Lip reading is by no means is concrete evidence of guilt however if it was Shaw would find himself in some trouble judging by the video above.
Meanwhile Shaw says he can’t remember what he said in the heat of the moment (via USA Today) :
“Emotions are high; I don’t know what’s said,” Shaw said after the loss. “I was obviously upset with the call, being late in game. It doesn’t give us a chance to tie it up.”
The You Can Play Project, an organization founded in 2012 to ensure equality in athletics commented on what happened.
We are aware of tonight's incident and will be reaching out to the NHL immediately to assist in an appropriate response.

It’s also probably important to note that one of You Can Play’s founding members Patrick Burke is currently working in the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.
