NFL Wild Card: Tebow and the Broncos shock the world with victory over Steelers

Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos shocked the world today when they defeated the defending AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers 29-23 in overtime Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s game marked the first time that an NFL postseason game went into overtime under the new overtime rules. These rules require the kicking team in overtime to get a possession unless the first team to possess scores a touchdown.

NFL fans really never got a chance though to see those rules in action.

On the first play of the opening possession in the overtime quarter, Tim Tebow found Demaryius Thomas for an 80 yard touchdown reception and a ticket for next week’s postseason matchup with the New England Patriots. Not only that, Tim Tebow becomes the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw a game winning touchdown pass. He joins Kenny Stabler to Dave Casper (Ghost to the Post) in 1977 against the Colts, Jim Everett to Flipper Anderson in 1989 against the Giants, and Jake Delhomme to Steve Smith in 2003 against the Rams.

For Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger, he was clearly affected by injury as he was largely ineffective for the entire first half.

However after halftime Big Ben was moving around much better as he found Jerricho Cotchery for the tying score.
