Going into the season, St. Louis Ram fans were pumped up to have Todd Gurley coming in. They haven’t been this excited since Steven Jackson was selected in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft. You can easily compare them.
One thing that I’ve been seeing is that some writers are comparing Todd Gurley to Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. I have no idea what they were thinking. Peterson is in his own category and we haven’t seen anyone close to him.
To me, Todd Gurley reminds me of a young Steven Jackson more than anyone else.
The only difference between the two are, Todd Gurley has more speed and can get to the outside quicker than Steven Jackson could. Jackson has more power and could run up the middle and break tackles a little bit easier. But it is very hard to compare the two because of two very different offensive lines.
To me the 2015 St. Louis Rams has a better offensive line than Steven Jackson did in his rookie season in 2004.
You can only expect Todd Gurley to get better. In four consecutive games that he has played in, he has rushed for more than 120 yards in each game. The kid has tons of talent and could become a superstar in no time. But one thing that could slow him down is his receiving game. Not the greatest catching the ball but the more he gets the ball by running it out the of the backfield, will make him not have to worry about catching the ball.
