If you were hoping that the caps strapped Rams were somehow going to bring back free agent Ndamukong Suh this offseason, you better think again.
That is if you take into account the comments from Rams general manager Les Snead saying Tuesday that re-signing the 32-year-old, three-time All-Pro was “pretty much guaranteed to be off the table” per Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.
Yet it’s not like the Rams are just letting him walk without addressing the roster prior.
LA has been extremely busy this offseason essentially re-tooling their lineup as they look to make another run at the Super Bowl next season. So far the Rams have signed safety Eric Weddle, linebacker Clay Matthews and quarterback Blake Bortles, and re-signing outside linebacker Dante Fowler. Head Coach Sean McVay also made mention Tuesday that the team “absolutely” wants to take care of cornerback Marcus Peters with an extension.
Likewise any impending Marcus Peters extension comes with the added hurdle of trying to navigate the $4.5 million the team currently has in salary cap space after their first round of free agent spending.
In any sense that doesn’t leave much for Suh who’ll command a high-end contract this offseason and unless the Rams can get creative with some restructures, Suh will undoubtedly be playing for his fourth NFL team at the start of the 2019 season.
