Narduzzi’s reasons for staying with the Spartans

After flirting with the idea of becoming the new defensive coordinator of Texas A&M, Pat Narduzzi ultimately decided to stay with the Spartans as their defensive coordinator.

“But suppose the offer from the Aggies was close to $750,000, which is probably significantly more than any bump he’ll see from his current employer. Then, why stay? The answer wasn’t simple as it looked, even financially,” MLive.com. “Narduzzi’s career goals include becoming a Division I head coach (where the exorbitant money and prestige really exists, once beyond the mid-major step, if it can’t be skipped). So would’ve Texas A&M put him any closer to running his own shop than another year or two in East Lansing? Probably not.”

What may even be more important though is holding onto their coaches signifies that the Spartans are furthering their own brand. Any Big Ten school looking to make a big impact on the college football world should never lose their coaches to another school of equal significance unless it’s a head coaching opportunity.
