MSU AD Mark Hollis to chair NCAA cabinet

Michigan State Athletic Director Mark Hollis has become the second elected chairman of the of the NCAA Division I Amateurism Cabinet. This is according to the Detroit Free Press.

Hollis replaces Baylor’s Mike Rogers, who served as chairman since the cabinet’s inception in 2008. Hollis has also been a member of the cabinet since 2008.

In addition to his newly elected position, Hollis will still serve on the NCAA men’s basketball Issues Committee, a position he’s held since last year.

According to the Free Press Hollis’ new position is responsible for all pre- and postenrollment amateurism issues, including oversight of issues pertaining to the NCAA Eligibility Center, student-athlete likeness issues and the relationship between college and professional athletes.

“It is important that we, as member institutions, understand the role that intercollegiate athletics play in higher education,” Hollis said in a statement.
