The question on whether or not Wings forward Johan Franzen will be available for Game 6 against the San Jose Sharks is still up in the air. Franzen has been laboring all series with an ankle injury he originally suffered in the first round against Phoenix and he sat out the entire 3rd period Sunday night.
If Franzen can’t go that seemingly leaves two options for the Wings, Jiri Hudler, who was sat out in favor of Drew Miller and veteran forward Mike Modano who has only played in one game during the post season.
So who is going to be, Happy Hudler or the Detroit native Modano?
Well today Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock said that if Johan Franzen can’t go in Game 6 on Tuesday night, Mike Modano and not Hudler would be his replacement. This is according to Ansar Khan of Mlive.com.
“I’m not going to worry about that much,” Babcock said. “We’ll see what happens. If he’s not ready to go, we’ll put Modano in.”
With the Wings on the brink of elimination, Modano may be looking at his final game in the NHL. It has been widely known that Modano, one of the best American born players, will retire at seasons end.
