The veteran center did have successful surgery this morning to repair the tendon which Ken Holland said was significantly damaged.
Surgery was a success. He’s out indefinitely,” Holland said. “The doctor doesn’t know how long he’s out. The doctor wants to give it a little time to see how he heals.
“It did significant damage.’’
Holland also indicated that the team will more than likely not call anyone up from Grand Rapids since the team currently has 12 healthy forwards and Kris Draper returning for the upcoming west coast road trip.
“I’ve been a general manager since ’97 and here in Detroit since ’84, haven’t really had an injury like this,” Holland said. “We don’t really have a clue (how long he’ll be out).’’
This is obviously very bad news for Modano and the rest of the Red Wings organization. Modano’s leadership and experience will definitely be missed on that third line for the Wings who hope to have Modano back at some point this season.
