The MLB will have a look at Chase Utley’s late slide that ended up breaking the leg of Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada during last night’s 5-2 Dodgers win in game two of the NLDS.

MLB vice president Joe Torre made a quick comment on the matter late Saturday night saying the league has been “looking at it a number of times” and that he “thought it was a little late. So that’s what I’m digesting now.”

The takeout slide occurred during the 7th inning of last night’s game from Dodger Stadium. The slide was obviously delayed and caused more controversy other than the break considering Utley never touched the bag. The umpires even over ruled Utley being called out after it was reviewed that Tejada never touched the bag. However despite Tejada failing to touch the bag, Utley still should have been called out when he left the baseline after heading back to the dugout.

Needless to say the Mets lost more than Tejada on the play. New York ended up losing the game considering the Dodgers went on to rally in the seventh en route to their game two win while saving their season heading back to the New York for game three.

Ironically enough though, this wasn’t the first time Utley used the hard takeout slide on Tejada. The same thing happened back in 2010 when Utley was a member of the Phillies.
