MLB commissioner Rob Manfred made his much anticipated decision today on Yankees reliever Aroldis Chapman suspending the flame throwing pitcher 30 games for his domestic problems that arose last October in Miami.
According to Chapman himself (via the New York Post), he admitted to police to choking and pushing his then girlfriend at his home. But to top off a night of domestic abuse, Chapman then allegedly fired gunshots in his garage.
“I found Mr. Chapman’s acknowledged conduct on that day to be inappropriate under the negotiated Policy, particularly his use of a firearm and the impact of that behavior on his partner,” Manfred said in a statement. “I am gratified that Mr. Chapman has taken responsibility for his conduct, that he has agreed not to appeal the 30-game suspension.”
Aside though from the 30-game ban, the trigger happy woman beater will also forfeit $1.7 million dollars in salary for the games missed.
Either way it’s a small price to pay for Chapman and the Yankees who acquired him from the Reds for four prospects and a sack of marbles.
