Current General Manager Ben Cherington will be on his way out, but will reportedly stick around and assist Dombrowski with the transition.

He takes over for Cherington who’s been on the job since October 2011, when he took over for now Chicago Cubs President Theo Epstein. Cherington has a World Series title on his resume back in 2013 but has several awful seasons mixed in between. Cherington had been with the Red Sox since 1999 in some capacity in the front office.
Dave Dombrowski owns a 1867-2117 record as a General Manager including a 989-1054 record with the Detroit Tigers where he made five playoff appearances and two appearances in the World Series. He also made the playoffs once as the G.M. of the Marlins where he won a World Series title in 1997.
Dave Dombrowski, 59, will inherit a Boston Red Sox squad who is in last place in the American League East with a 52-66 record. There is also a plethora of young talent and bad contracts that he will have to deal with.
