Head coach John Beilein is expected to address the situation during the end of season press conference on Monday.
Morris was a huge contributor to the surprising success of Michigan’s basketball program this season. On January 30th against Iowa he recorded the third triple-double is school history with 12 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Upon entering the NCAA Tournament he was fifth in the nation, averaging 6.7 assists.
After Michigan’s loss to Duke in the third round of the NCAA Tournament Morris said that he would return to the team next season. This years deadline to declare yourself eligible for the NBA Draft is April 24th. If he doesn’t hire an agent he can withdraw his eligibility on May 8th.
Losing Morris would obviously be a huge loss for Michigan who is looking to improve upon their successes this past season. However if Morris were to leave for the NBA Trey Burke, a point guard who was named Ohio’s Mr. Basketball last week could look to take his spot at the point next season alongside senior Stu Douglass.
