After suffering a seizure in Minnesota’s home opener on September 1oth against New Mexico State, Gophers head coach Jerry Kill re-admitted himself into the hospital this past Sunday after suffering another seizure.
Minnesota Athletic Director Joe Maturi told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that he had “no idea” when Kill, who has a history of seizures, will return.
Minnesota defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys said the Gophers are going about their business and preparing for Michigan as if Kill won’t be on the sidelines this Saturday.
“We’ve always prepared in a way that he won’t be there, but I fully expect he will,” Claeys said Tuesday on the Big Ten’s weekly coaches teleconference. “He’s never missed one. But we’ll prepare like he won’t be there, and go from there. That’s a lot better than the alternative.”
We here are The Majors Ann Arbor certainly hope for a speedy recovery for Coach Kill.
The Battle for the Little Brown Jug
Michigan players got themselves reaquaintted with the Little Brown Jug in a surprise meeting at Schembechler Hall Tuesday.
The story behind the game dates back to 1903 when Michigan left their water jug behind after the two schools played. In order to get it back, Michigan had to head back to Minnesota and actually win it.
“It’s a big part of our tradition, what makes Michigan what it is, the fact that it has these little things that we’ve been a part of,” said U-M senior defensive lineman Ryan Van Bergen, who didn’t touch it when U-M won in 2008, because he didn’t feel he contributed. “You picture in your mind what it looks like, but when you see it up close it’s not the most beautiful jug you’ve ever seen. For fans who haven’t been close to it, I don’t think you’d want to drink any water out of that.”
