There’s no question that Michigan State’s game against Florida Atlantic this Saturday is a bit underwhelming. Sure the Spartans are going to roll over FAU which is always good but as much as the Spartans don’t want to admit it, this is a game they’re probably looking over.

Despite the underwhelming opponent in FAU, the Spartans do still have some goals this weekend aside from the obvious of winning the game and that’s getting their depth players playing time.

The Spartans need to get up big and do this early so they can sit their starters by half time enabling their backups a full half to get work in.

Probably the player that needs to get the most game time experience is Spartan QB Andrew Maxwell. Maxwell didn’t enter the Youngstown State game until the final drive for the Spartans which really isn’t acceptable against a second tier team like Youngstown State. Michigan State can ill-afford an inexperienced backup in the untimely event that starter Kirk Cousins goes down with an injury.
