Here are some news and noteworthy items as the team prepares to face Youngstown State in their season opener Friday evening.

• Michigan State defensive end William Gholston is bothered by the lack of sacks he had last season in very limited playing time as motivation to get at the QB this season. The five-star recruit out of Detroit Southeastern played as a reserve before getting injured and having shoulder surgery last season.
