Who says the World Baseball Classic isn’t anything to pay attention to?
Saturday afternoon a chippy game between Team Mexico and Team Canada quickly escalated into a benches clearing brawl in the top of the 9th inning as Canada held a 9-3 lead. The brawl looked to be ignited when Canadian Chris Robinson bunted in the final inning with Canada comfortably ahead. After Robinson reached based replays showed Team Mexico first baseman Luis Cruz mouth to his pitcher Arnold Leon to “get him”.
Leon obliged.
During the next at bat, Leon threw at Canada’s Rene Tosoni missing him the first two times. After this both benches were warned before Leon eventually hit Tosoni clearing both benches with punches being thrown.
Tensions though weren’t limited to the field. Debris was thrown onto the field with a bottle reportedly hitting a Canadian player as fans were seen being escorted out by stadium security and police.
