Mets land Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco from Cleveland

The Mets have landed a huge piece heading into the 2021 season as Jeff Passan reports that New York has acquired shortstop Francisco Lindor from Cleveland.

Not only that though, the Mets also landed right-hander Carlos Carrasco in the deal for a number of players in return that includes Amed Rosario, Andres Gimenez, Josh Wolf, and Isaiah Greene.

Cleveland unloading Lindor isn’t surprising as they’ve been looking to shed payroll for some time now and Lindor’s name had been at the top of the list, especially considering the short stop is entering the final year of his contract before hitting free agency.

Also, despite the Mets being one of the many named teams linked to a possible Lindor swap, there were some thoughts that New York would ultimately pass given both new owner Steve Cohen and team president Sandy Alderson mentioning the team being more likely to sign big-name free agents than trade for them. This primarily being due to the fact that the Mets don’t have a deep farm system that would entice a team like Cleveland to pull the trigger.

Nonetheless, Alderson and new Mets GM Jared Porter were able to swing the deal and now must devise a plan to get Lindor locked up for the long-term.
