One of the game’s greatest, Lionel Messi was subbed off halfway through the second half of Sunday’s Copa America Final after suffering what appeared to be a non-contact leg injury.
In the 66′ minute, Messi went down awkwardly onto the Hard Rock Stadium pitch seemingly getting his foot caught in the turf while trying to regain possession. The Argentine Captain immediately went down holding his right leg while signaling to the bench as the crowd went quiet.
Messi eventually left the pitch under his own power but was seen on the bench in tears in what could be his last appearance for Argentina in a major tournament.
Nicholas Gonzalez ended up replacing Messi with the match scoreless.
