Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson has turned a lot of heads as a college quarterback during his time in Ann Arbor.
He has been labeled as one of the most exciting and elusive players to watch at the quarterback position.
However, ESPN Draft guru Mel Kiper, Jr. is taking things to the next level in terms of the Denard Robinson hype.
According to the Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett (via Twitter) Kiper see’s Robinson as a No. 2 or No.1 wide receiver…
Mel Kiper on Denard Robinson’s draft stock: “He’s either the No. 2 or No.1 most highly rated WR option & he hasnt even played the position”
Robinson recently stated that he would return to Michigan for his senior season after filing paper work with the NFL Draft Advisory Board so it’s assumed Kiper wasn’t referring to this year’s draft.
Now I don’t believe there is any question whether or not Robinson has a place in the NFL. We’ve seen what he can do when the ball is in his hands which is certainly foreseeable to see him as a return man, running back or even a slot receiver. NFLDraftScout.com had Robinson rated as the fourth best running back heading into the 2013 draft. Again this isn’t something totally outlandish considering Robinson’s 1,176 yards rushing this season and his 1,702 in 2010.
However, rating him a top 2 wide receiver, when he is a slot receiver at best isn’t just a stretch, it’s just plain dumb.
