The Seattle Mariners took control of the American League Division Series with a commanding 8–4 victory over the Detroit Tigers in Game 3 on Monday night at Comerica Park.
Seattle’s offense came alive early, striking for two runs in the third inning. J.P. Crawford got things started with an RBI single to score Victor Robles, and Randy Arozarena followed with another run-scoring hit to make it 2–0.
The Mariners extended their lead in the fourth when Eugenio Suárez launched a solo homer and Cal Raleigh added an RBI single, pushing the advantage to 4–0. Detroit finally broke through in the fifth inning, as Kerry Carpenter scored on a fielder’s choice to put the Tigers on the board.
Crawford continued his big night with a solo shot in the sixth to make it 5–1, and later added a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Raleigh capped Seattle’s scoring in the ninth with a two-run blast to right field.
Detroit showed some late life in the bottom half of the ninth, when Spencer Torkelson roped a two-run double and Andy Ibáñez followed with an RBI single to trim the deficit, but it was too little too late.
With the win, the Mariners grabbed a 2–1 series lead and will look to close things out in Game 4.
