Just five months after the Summer Olympics, the Maracanã Stadium in Brazil is already turning into a ruin.
The crown jewel of the Summer Olympics which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies as well as games in the 2014 World Cup, it has now become the victim of dilapidation as the country continue to deal with financial woe.

Originally built in the 1950’s for Wold Cup use, the stadium underwent a mass renovation for the 2014 World Cup and the Summer Olympics two years later. According to reports, the venue is now without power, has roughly 6,000 seats missing, the grass is dying and has underwent mass looting.

The deterioration of Olympic venues is nothing new. We’ve seen it before in Beijing and Greece where nature has began to reclaim softball fields and swimming facilities. However that was back in 2008 and 2004 respectively, not just five months out like we’re seeing in Rio.
