According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Ted Hill, father of Lions
“I talked to Shaun, I texted Shaun (Saturday) night,” said Don Barcus, who coached football with Ted at Parsons (Kan.) High and will be a pallbearer for Thursday’s funeral. “Shaun texted me back and said my dad is the greatest person in the world. They had a very close relationship — he did with both his sons.”
According to Birkett, Ted Hill was an assistant football coach, the boys and girls basketball coach, athletic director and later principal at Parsons High. Shaun Hill also played basketball and football for his father while attending Parsons High.
“Just a very humble and generous man, that’s the best way to describe him,” said Steve Lardy, play-by-play voice of Parsons. “And it’s reflected in his son. Shaun’s his dad’s kid. They’re identical.
“Very humble, very active in the community. Shaun comes back here every year and gives a lot of his time to kids in the community, and Ted was that way, too. Very humble. You’d never know Shaun played in the NFL — you wouldn’t — and he’s been that way ever since he left town.”
From everyone here at The Majors our deepest condolences go out to the Hill family during this extremely difficult and sad time.
