For the second time this season, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has been placed on the COVID-19/reserve list.
The move for Stafford comes after he reportedly had “high-risk, close contact” with a non-team member who tested positive for COVID-19. Now, this doesn’t mean that Stafford is a confirmed no-go for Sunday’s game against the Vikings, however, what it does mean is Stafford would need to have five straight negative tests to be eligible to come off the list right before game time.
Stafford is considered a “high-risk, close contact” of a non-team member who tested positive for COVID-19, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Stafford’s last contact with the individual was Monday, which means he would be eligible to come off the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday and play against the Minnesota Vikings, pending five straight days of negative tests for him.

Stafford’s last stint on the COVID-19 list was as a result of a false-positive test that caught the ire of his wife Kelly Stafford for the team announcing the false positive without making any confirmations. In any sense though, Stafford is currently the second Lions player on the list after LB Jarrad Davis, however, the two cases are not related.
If Stafford cannot go on Sunday, he could be the second major offensive piece for Detroit that would be out if wide receiver Kenny Golladay (hip) is determined unable to go as well.
