In the wake of their 42-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Lions player are reportedly becoming increasingly worried about head coach Jim Caldwell’s ability to run the team.
According to the Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, players from the Lions have told B/R that they’re concerned Jim Caldwell has ‘lost the team’ after Sunday’s game as Detroit fell to an 0-5 record to start the season.
So what are the three biggest factors to Caldwell perhaps losing the team? Here’s what Cole outlines:
- Players are disappointed in how Caldwell handled last week’s Monday Night debacle by not knowing the bat rule and not being more vocal about the play on the field.
- Players were also disappointed that Caldwell wasn’t more vocal about what happened last Monday Night throughout last week and especially during that laughable press conference Tuesday.
- Finally, players according to Cole were encouraged by Stafford’s benching after the quarterback tossed three interceptions Sunday afternoon. However it may be too little too late as players believe that his chances of winning back the locker room are gone.
When it comes to the off the field stuff you can’t put all the blame on Caldwell. The supposed leaders of this team, namely Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson did absolutely nothing to voice their displeasure over what happened last week. Still though that Monday Night Football conclusion and aftermath very well could have been the beginning of the end for the short Caldwell era in Detroit.
