According to Philip Zaroo of Mlive.com, in addition to their drafted free agents, the Lions also signed 14 undrafted free agents.

Alphonso Smith hurt
Detroit Lions CB Alphonso Smith will start training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after suffering a broken foot three weeks ago.
“Alphonso’s gonna be little while,” head coach Jim Schwartz said after Friday’s practice. “He broke his foot, I think it was about three weeks or so ago, so he’s gonna start PUP, and we’ll just take our time with that.”
Cliff Avril still unsigned
Lions DE Cliff Avril remains unsigned as he was spotted at Allen Park today picking some things up from his locker. Avril also let reporters in on that he hasn’t decided on whether or not he would sign his one-year tender.
“What’s the difference? I can’t practice until Aug. 4th anyway,” Avril said.
The Lions are hoping to sign Avril to a long-term contract since he is an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Currently Avril has a first round tender attached to him meaning that if another team signs him to an offer sheet and the Lions decide not to match it, the signing team must surrender a first round draft pick to the Lions in order to complete the deal.
Backus’ status still up in the air
After suffering an injury to his pectoral muscle, Lions OT Jeff Backus expects to be ready to go when the Lions open their regular season against Tampa Bay. However according to Tom Kowalski, Backus cannot guarantee that this will be the case since he’s never suffered this type of injury.
