The Lions are adding cheerleaders in 2016

Lions

So it looks as though the Detroit Lions will add cheerleaders starting next season according to a statement released by the team Monday.

“The Ford Family is unwavering in their commitment to improving the Detroit Lions fan experience on and off the field,” said Detroit Lions Team President Rod Wood. “After thorough consideration and receiving input from our fans through season ticket member surveys and focus groups, we believe that this is an opportunity to elevate our game day entertainment.”

The team will also add a new coach as Rebecca Girard-Smoker has been hired as the director of the Detroit Lions’ cheerleaders and serve as the squads coach.

I’m still trying to figure out what’s more ironic with this news… the Lions getting cheerleaders with a female at the helm of the team in Martha Firestone Ford or Rod Wood making the announcement.

Anyways, there are only six teams left in the NFL who don’t currently employ cheerleading squads, the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
