The Detroit Lions have added some much-needed depth to their secondary, signing veteran cornerback Tre Flowers to the practice squad. The move comes in the wake of mounting injuries that left Detroit thin at cornerback.

Flowers, originally a fifth-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, brings valuable experience to the roster. Over his career, he has recorded 287 tackles, 22 pass deflections, four interceptions, and five forced fumbles while making stops with the Seahawks, Bengals, Falcons, Jaguars, Colts, and most recently the Bears.

The Lions’ decision to bring in Flowers was likely influenced by recent injuries to their defensive backfield. Starter D.J. Reed is expected to miss time with a hamstring issue, while rookie standout Terrion Arnold exited the Lions’ Week 4 matchup with a shoulder injury.

Adding Flowers provides Detroit with a steady veteran presence who can step in if needed. For now, he’ll begin on the practice squad, but depending on the recovery timelines for Reed and Arnold, Flowers could see himself elevated to the active roster in the near future.

The signing is a low-risk move for Detroit, but one that could prove vital as the team looks to stabilize its secondary during a critical stretch of the season.
