Lions add KC safety Maurice Leggett, Leshoure inks deal

The Lions continued to try to plaster over some of their gaping roster holes today by adding Kansas City Chiefs safety Maurice Leggett.

Unfortunately for Leggett he missed all of last season with a severe concussion which he suffered in pre-season. He didn’t suffer any long-term effects from the concussion but did spend the rest of the season on the IR so the Chiefs could meet the 53 man limit.

According to Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com, Leggett has started four games in his career and has played both safety and corner but mostly safety. He was released by the Chiefs before the lockout started in March.

Leshoure inks contract

The Lions also were able to ink one of their most important pieces from this years draft. Mikel Leshoure, the Lions second round pick, signed his rookie contract today and will be on the field for the first practice of training camp Friday.

The Lions are also expected to get first round pick Nick Fairley and second rounder Titus Young under contract soon. Although there have been some unconfirmed reports that Young has already signed his rookie contract.

UPDATE: According to the Detroit Free Press, Titus Young, Mikel Leshoure and Lions 5th round pick Doug Hogue all signed their 4 year rookie contracts. The terms of Leshoure and Youngs contract were not disclosed however Hogue will get a $180,000 signing bonus.
