The NFL lockout is now an after thought (well somewhat) as the NFL opens it’s doors and finally get’s down to business.
On the first day in which teams can release players and begin to talk to free agents plenty has happened or is about to happen in the NFL.
Lets take a look at some of the noteworthy transactions that have happened so far…
- Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times reports that Matt Hasselbeck will not re-sign with the Seattle Seahawks ending his 10 year run with the team. Tarvaris Jackson and Kevin Kolb have been mentioned as potential replacements.
- The Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reportedly not interested in RB Tiki Barber who is trying to make his return to the NFL. Barber apparently has two unidentified teams on his shortlist of teams he would like to play for. Hopefully for his sake those two teams weren’t Tampa Bay or Pittsburgh.
- The Baltimore Ravens are ready to cut ties with receiver Derrick Mason, tight end Todd Heap, running back Willis McGahee and defensive tackle Kelly Gregg.
- The Jets are the first team to contact free agent wide receiver Santonio Holmes. It’s important to note here that the Jets could also lose receivers Braylon Edwards and Brad Smith to free agency so it’s obvious they are looking for potential replacements.
- Dallas is certainly cleaning house by cutting ties or getting ready to cut ties with receiver Roy Williams, running back Marion Barber, guard Leonard Davis kicker Kris Brown, and tackle Marc Colombo.
- The Giants are ready to release center Shaun O’Hara who was due to earn $3.45 million in 2011.
