Well college football is finally back. Actually it returned last weekend but college football before Labor Day weekend seems completely blasphemous. I really donāt understand it.
Anyways, lets mark down our predictions for the power five conferences so we can all go back at the end of the season and see just how fucking wrong we were.
Enjoy!
š» AP Preseason Rankings
Preseason AP rankings are one of the most pointless things in college sports. I mean thereās nothing like injecting a little overhype for a good number of these teams listed only to have their fans be thoroughly disappointed
Nonetheless here are the rankings.
šŗšø Preseason AP First-Team All-American Team
š Heisman Trophy Odds
On second thought, AP Preseason rankings isnāt the most useless composition in college sportsā¦ Itās preseason Heisman odds!
Hereās this yearās odds via the Westgate SuperBook which again donāt take to heart considering in the past decade, only one of the five preseason Heisman favorites actually won it. That player was Marcus Mariota in 2014.
- Trevor Lawrence,Ā Clemson (3/1)
- Tua Tagovailoa,Ā Alabama (3/1)
- Adrian Martinez,Ā Nebraska (10/1)
- Jalen Hurts,Ā Oklahoma (12/1)
- Justin Fields,Ā Ohio State (12/1)
šÆ ACC Preview
Clemson already had a strong start to their title defense last night as they dismantled Georgia Tech 52-14.
Essentially, this conference is Clemson and everybody else.
Conference Standing Predictions
Atlantic | Coastal |
Clemson | Miami |
Syracuse | Virginia |
Florida State | Virginia Tech |
Wake Forest | Pitt |
Boston College | Duke |
NC State | North Carolina |
Louisville | Georgia Tech |
Conference Outlook
Again, Clemson is going to roll through the ACC with perhaps the biggest question being whether the Tigers will be able to improve on their average margin of victory from last season which was 31.2 points.
Other than that, keep an eye on a much improved Florida State team who could have some upsets in mind in 2019 while four teams in the ACC debut new coaches. Those teams are Louisville (former Appalachian State HC Scott Satterfield), Miami (former DC Manny Diaz), UNC (former Texas HC Mack Brown) and Georgia Tech (former Temple HC Geoff Collins).
š° Big Ten Preview
Itās going to be an interesting season for the Big Ten in 2019.
First, itās loaded, especially the East Division which features Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State Michigan State while the West should see some improved teams in Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska.
Conference Standing Predictions
East | West |
Ohio State | Iowa |
Michigan | Wisconsin |
Penn State | Nebraska |
Michigan State | Northwestern |
Indiana | Minnesota |
Maryland | Purdue |
Rutgers | Illinois |
Conference Outlook
Despite being a favorite to finish atop the Big Ten once again, thereās still plenty of important questions to consider when talking about the Buckeyes. With Urban Meyer gone, can Ryan Day maintain that Ohio State dominance? What about Justin Fields who takes over for Dwayne Haskins at QB?
With that said youād think this is Michiganās best chance to finally overtake Ohio State and score Jim Harbaugh his first win over arguably the Wolverinesā biggest rival. Currently, the Michigan head coach is 0-4 against the Buckeyes and if Harbaugh doesnāt score some meaningful wins, especially against his opponents there could be some real discussion in Ann Arbor as whether Michigan wants to continue with Harbaugh calling the shots.
š¤ Big 12 Preview
Even with Kyler Murray gone, that Oklahoma offense shouldnāt miss a beat as theyāre once again expected to the best in the country, this time with Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts under center.
Likewise, the Sooners are once again the favorites to come out on top in the Big 12 however Texas and perhaps Iowa State wonāt be too far behind.
Conference Standing Predictions
Oklahoma |
Texas |
Iowa State |
Oklahoma State |
TCU |
Baylor |
West Virginia |
Texas Tech |
Kansas State |
Kansas |
Conference Outlook
Oklahomaās biggest threat could very well be Texasā Sam Ehlinger is one of two players in NCAA history to throw for 25 TD, rush for 15 TD and throw 5 or fewer INT (the other is Marcus Mariota).Ā In other words we could potentially see a repeat of what happened last year, Texas winning the Red River Rivalry Game and fall to the Sooners in the Big 12 championship. Or maybe this is Ehlingerās year to bring the Longhorns back to the top of the Big 12.
š Pac-12 Preview
For the past several seasonās it seems like the Pac-12 has been nothing but college football purgatory.
Oregon took several steps back while Stanford hasnāt been much of a factor as well. USC has has been dog shit since they won a National Title in 2004 and Washington just doesnāt seem like a team you can take seriously outside of the conference.
Conference Standing Predictions
North | South |
Washington | Utah |
Oregon | USC |
Washington State | UCLA |
Stanford | Arizona State |
Cal | Arizona |
Oregon State | Colorado |
Conference Outlook
Donāt hold your breath for a Pac-12 conference that produces a team that can compete for a National Title or even a playoff spot. The Huskies lost eight players to the NFL draft last season āĀ only Alabama (10) and Ohio State (9) lost more.Ā So donāt expect them to be any better than what they were last season.
UCLA should be better in Chip Kellyās second season with the team but the Bruins are still a long way off from actually competing for a Pac-12 title.
Meanwhile, Los Angelesā other college team at USC should also be better, however, they have an extremely difficult start to the season as theyāll see games against Fresno State (home), Stanford (home), BYU (road), Utah (home), Washington (road) and Notre Dame (road).
š SEC Preview
Alabama is Alabama but at some point they have to fall in the SEC. Could 2019 be that year? Especially given Georgia hasnāt lost a SEC East game since 2016, have one of the best QBās in the nation in Jake Fromm, a dominant offensive line and a great defense.
Conference Standing Predictions
East | West |
Georgia | Alabama |
Florida | LSU |
Missouri | Texas A&M |
South Carolina | Auburn |
Tennessee | Mississippi State |
Kentucky | Ole Miss |
Vanderbilt | Arkansas |
Conference Outlook
The SEC is obviously going to all come down to Alabama and Georgia once again with the biggest question being whether the Bulldogs can overcome that Crimson Tide hump?
From 2016 through 2018, GeorgiaĀ spent more than $7 millionĀ on football recruiting, which ranked first nationally add that to all of the aforementioned droolings we did with it came to Fromm as well as the Bulldogsā o-line and defense and it certainly seems like if Georgia is ever going to take down Alabama, 2019 would seem to be the year.
However, no matter no matter the outcome when it comes to any presumptive SEC championship game between Alabama and Georgia, you can probably expect to see both teams in the final College Football Playoff standings once everything is all said and done.
