A bad offseason for the Cleveland Cavaliers has just gotten worse.
According to ESPN who cites sources, Kyrie Irving has requested a trade out of Cleveland because he supposedly wants to become the focal point of a new team and no longer wants to pay beside LeBron James.
Via ESPN:
The request came last week and was made to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Irving has expressed that he wants to play in a situation where he can be more of a focal point and that he no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that during last week’s meeting the San Antonio Spurs were Irving’s “preferred” destination. However the guard also mentioned that he’d be willing to join the New York Knicks, Miami Heat or the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Sources: In the Kyrie Irving meeting with Cavs, one of primary teams raised as a preferred trade destination for him: The San Antonio Spurs.

What’s odd considering his desire to be the guy is would that hold true if he was to go to his preferred destination in San Antonio? It seems like Kawhi Leonard has that pretty much on lockdown. I guess you could also say the same thing about the Timberwolves with Jimmy Butler and in a small sense with the Knicks if you want to consider Kristaps Porzingis.
It seems like there’s something more here than wanting to become the focal point in a new organization. Perhaps it’s the stranglehold that LeBron looks to assume with any respective organization and/or Dan Gilbert totally fucking the team?
