Longtime Red Wing forward Kris Draper will reportedly announce his retirement after 17 seasons in the NHL. This is according to a source close to the team.
The announcement is expected to come Tuesday morning from Joe Louis Arena during a press conference.
Draper spent the majority of his 17 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and was briefly part of the old Winnipeg Jets organization.
Draper was originally drafted by the Jets with the 62nd pick in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He accumulated 161 career regular-season goals and 203 assists. Furthermore in 222 playoff games, he had 24 goals and 22 assists.
The former Selke Award winner for the best two-way forward may be most famous for being acquired by the Red Wings from the Winnipeg Jets for $1 dollar. He was also on the receiving end of a dirty hit by Claude Lemieux in the 1996 Western Conference Finals in which his face was severely injured and part of the fan favorite Grind Line along with Kirk Maltby and Darren McCarty.
