With the Tigers needing pitching help, any pitcher that’s available or rumored to be available is more than likely going to be linked back to the Tigers.
The latest pitcher to potentially be available as the MLB trade deadline nears is Baltimore right-hander Koji Uehara.
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweeted Saturday that the O’s could make Uehara available and the surprising Pittsburgh Pirates could be interested. However, Jason Churchill of ESPN believes that if Uehara truly is available than any contending team can become a potential suitor.
Along with the Pirates, Yankees, Cardinals and Diamondbacks, Churchill names the Detroit Tigers as another potential suitor for the right-handed reliever. Churchill however does go on to say that Cincinnati and Texas may be the perfect options for Uehara.
In 40 games so far this season, Koji Uehara (36) is 1-1 with a 1.84 ERA and a .705 WHIP. Even though he doesn’t have an elite closers arsenal, with those numbers he is a proven valuable late-inning option in a tough division with numerous impact bats.
