Defenseman Alec Martinez’s goal in double overtime sent the Los Angeles Kings to their second Stanley Cup win in the last three years as they defeated the New York Rangers 3-2 winning the series 4-1.
The series though was a lot closer though than the 4-1 outcome as both teams skated to a single and double overtime during the course of the best-of-seven match up. The outcome also marked the end of quite the run through the playoffs for the Kings who went to a game seven in three of the first four rounds including coming back from a 3-0 series deficit in round one against the Sharks.
Henrik Lundqvist and Jonathan Quick also continued to prove they’re two of the best in the game today as both were pretty solid throughout the entire series. In game five Quick made 28 saves on 30 shots while Lundqvist made 48 saves on 51 shots.
LA forward Justin Williams was named the Conn Smythe winner finished the playoffs with 9 goals and 16 assists in 26 games.
