Finally Seattle fans can rejoice and celebrate something good happening to their own team in Safeco.
Wednesday afternoon Mariners ace Felix Hernandez threw the first perfect game in Seattle Mariners history in a 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Hernandez struck out 12 total batters which included striking out the side in the 8th and adding two more in the 9th. This was the 23rd perfect game in MLB history but the third this season. Earlier in the year Matt Cain pitched a perfecto against the Houston Astros while the Mariners had a perfect game thrown against them by White Sox pitcher Philip Humber back on April 21st.
In what was once an extremely rare feet, there have been a total of 12 perfect games thrown between 1990 and 2012. Compare that to the 11 perfect games that were thrown between 1880 and 1989.
