Team USA destroyed Serbia Sunday 110-84 as the star-studded roster for the United States completely took over in the fourth against maybe their most formidable opponent in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
However, one notable omission from the rotation among that stacked lineup was Celtics star Jayson Tatum who didn’t see a minute of action on Sunday something that head coach Steve Kerr made note of in the aftermath of the victory.
In an interview with ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Kerr said he “felt like an idiot not playing (Tatum)” but added that, “in a 40-minute game, you can’t play more than 10 (guys).” while also mentioning that he (Kerr) “went with the combinations that made sense”.
It’s all kind of a moot point right now considering the United States ended up railroading Serbia. In fact, it’s kind of scary how good the United States potentially is considering the fact that Kerr was able to deploy a lineup absent of one of the best players in the World and still beat Serbia by almost 30 points. Still, though, you have to wonder what part of Tatum’s game from over the weekend didn’t make sense when it came to Kerr’s combinations when you consider Tatum is coming off his best season as a pro and was the second-leading scorer for Team USA in Tokyo.
