During his time, Keith Moon was one of the greatest rock drummers in the world and part of the The Who, one of the greatest rock bands of all time. So it’s conceivable that any big event like the 2012 Olympic Games would love to have Keith Moon and The Who open the event.
There’s only one small problem, Keith Moon died of a drug overdose back in 1978.
This small detail of The Who apparently went under the radar of the 2012 London Olympic organizers who asked the band’s manager Bill Curbishley if Moon would be “available to play” for the event.
Curbishley responded with the following…
“Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who’s anthemic line ‘I hope I die before I get old.’ If they have a around table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him.”
No word yet on if the organizers also asked if John Entwistle was available as well. But that’s probably silly since Entwistle died in 2002 and everyone knows that.
You’d have to think too that the organizers are probably British which makes this story even more baffling.
