Jordan Spieth won the U.S. Open Sunday after and amazing final round with plenty of drama on the final two holes.
With the double bogey on 17, Spieth fell into a tie going into the final hole but was able to keep his composure missing the eagle on 18 but sinking the birdie to give him at minus-5 and a one shot lead into the clubhouse.
Spieth’s only competition at this point was Dustin Johnson who had an excellent approach on 18 setting himself up win with an eagle. After missing the eagle though Johnson had an opportunity to send the tournament into an 18 hole playoff Monday with a short birdie put which he also missed while sealing the victory for Spieth.
What a tough break for Johnson and unfortunately one of the finer choke jobs within a 13′ putt. On the other hand, Spieth has now won his first two major tournaments of his career which ironically came this year with The Master’s earlier on in the year and now the United States Open. Speaking of which he becomes the first player to win both The Masters and U.S. Open since Tiger Woods in 2002.
