A late request for a score review and subsequent score adjustment has cost U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles her bronze medal according to reports.

Sunday, the International Olympic Committee upheld a ruling that U.S. coach Cecile Landi was four seconds late when she successfully lobbied that Chilesโ€™ difficulty score was under-credited.

Chiles, 23, had initially finished fifth in the competition on Monday before U.S. coach Cecile Landisuccessfully lobbied that her athleteโ€™s difficulty score had been under-credited.

Officials on the scene agreed and adjusted Chilesโ€™ score .1 of a point to 13.766, which boosted her above two Romanian athletes, triggering an angry reaction from that delegation.

Coaches reportedly have one minute to protest a score while the Court of Arbitration for Sport, determined that Landi made her protest at 64 seconds.

18-year-old Ana Bฤƒrbosu of Romania will now be awarded the bronze in the individual floor exercise, however, itโ€™s not clear how or if Chiles will return the bronze medal. The 23-year-old who also has a gold in the team competition from this yearโ€™s games has already left Paris and returned to the United States.

Meanwhile, released the following statement Saturday night:

โ€œWe are devastated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling regarding womenโ€™s floor exercise. The inquiry into the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chilesโ€™ floor exercise routine was filed in good faith and, we believed, in accordance with FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring.โ€
