The Washington Capitals ensured there will be a new team hoisting the Stanley Cup this year.
Joel Ward scored early in the first overtime as the Washington Capitals eliminated the defending Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins 2-1 Wednesday night from Bean Town.
Not only that both teams from last years finals have been eliminated in the first round this postseason. The Vancouver Canucks were eliminated by the Los Angeles Kings in five games.
Interestingly enough though this is the first seven game playoff series in NHL history where every game was decided by one goal.
