Joe Theismann says Washington should go with Kirk Cousins over RGIII

After trading the No. 6 overall pick in 2012, their second-round pick in 2012, and their first-round picks in 2013 and 2014, could there be some doubt facing Washington when it comes to their perceived face of the organization Robert Griffin III? Much of this speculation has been echoed by Joe Theismann who believes it’s time for Washington to go with former Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins over their first round draft pick.

Here’s what Theismann told the Washington Post

“Let’s stop beating around the bush. Kirk Cousins has played much better at the quarterback position than Robert Griffin III has…. Right now, Robert Griffin III is his quarterback. Now, if there was a quarterback competition, it wouldn’t be a competition. Kirk Cousins would be the man I believe he would have to go to.”

Cousins has only started four games for Washington over the past two seasons compiling a 1-3 record but has for the most part out performed RGIII this preseason. In a loss to the Ravens Saturday night, Cousins went 14-of-20 with 122 passing yards and two touchdowns. Additionally Cousins has thrown four touchdowns and just one interception in three preseason appearances while the Washington offense has looked better and more comfortable with Cousins calling the shots.

Meanwhile this past Saturday, Griffin III played the entire first half and the first series of the second half going 5-of-8 with an interception and a fumble that was recovered by Washington.

I guess you can go ahead and add to the further speculation that Cousins was drafted just for this reason.
