Jason Hanson named starting kicker as Lions release first set of cuts

The Lions’ all-time scoring leader Jason Hanson will return for his 21st season with the team after winning the kicking role from undrafted rookie Derek Dimke.

Heading into camp however it was expected that the 42 year old Hanson would win the job outright and continue an amazing run with the only NFL team he’s ever known. The Lions were also comfortable with giving Hanson the kicking duties once again as he made 3 of 4 field goals this preseason, with a long of 50 yards.

With Hanson back in the fold the Lions released Dimke as well as receivers Jarett Dillard and Terrence Toliver, fullback James Bryant, running back Stephfon Green, safety Sean Jones, guards Jacques McClendon and J.C. Oram, linebacker Slade Norris and defensive tackle Bobby Skinner.

The Lions have until 4PM ET today to cut their 90 man roster down to the 75 player limit.
